Evolution

I look at the filthy street out of my balcony window. And I see broken street lamps, pavement, covered with trash, high concrete buildings, which are hiding the majestic green mountains with their grey deck – roofs. It’s a sunny morning, but the people outside aren’t delighted with the nice weather, they only grumble how difficult their job is, murmur at the high price of the cheese or just stare sullen at the greyness, which they have created. It seems that nowadays people are dissatisfied with everything they see, with everything that nature offers them, therefore they have to “work it over”, to “fix” it, so that it loses its jazzy colour and becomes grey, to their taste.

Nowadays people are surrounded with technology, life is simple and easy. Material things have taken possession of our little universe and money rules the world. The word “happiness” has changed its meaning, people don’t value little things, they consider them as a fact and understand their true meaning as late as people lose them.

“Evolution” is a term, which means a process of growth, change or progress. Then can we say that mankind has evolved? I wonder if this change, we have reached, is a sign for development, if people have “grown” or it’s just the monkey that stood up on its two legs and succeeded in convincing everybody that it’s to the good of mankind. If it is so, then it’s me that is most convinced in that!

I could criticize mankind for hours, even days. I could accuse it for its irresponsibility, indifference and foolishness. But if I wanted to enumerate all of its achievements, I would have needed much more time to do it. And if anybody was touched by my first paragraphs and has agreed with the opinion that people still act like stupid monkeys, then I’m ready to convince him that, despite of all this criticism, I love people, and I can give him not only one or two, but a bunch of reasons why.

Is it because of the incredible literary work of the big Russian classical writers like Dostoewsky and Tolstoy, who share their endless wisdom about love, family and life at all, by their unforgettable books “War and Peace”, “Anna Karenina”, “Crime and Punishment” and others, or because of the row of gifted artists like Picasso, El Greco and Luis de Morales, who take us to another world – more interesting and more exciting thаn ours – by their paintings? Is it because of the curious Leonardo Da Vinci inventions, an artist, who didn’t except that there’s a limit for human’s desire and continued his attempts to fly like a bird in the sky until his last breath, or because of the impressive voices of music “monsters” like Robert Plant, Freddy Mercury, Laura Pussiny and Valia Balkanska, which stun us with energy? Is it because of the simple people, who still haven’t forgotten how to love, to support, to help, to sympathize, to laugh, to sorrow, to create, to share, to search, to find, to live…, or is it because I don’t want to stop believing in progress, I love mankind with all my heart and I’m ready to defend it until death! Because people have covered a long and thorny distance from the banana trees to the majestic skyscrapers! Because people definitely are on their way to the top, despite of all the difficulties on the way up and despite of the mistakes they make.

Therefore I would like to say: “Thank you, Mr Darwin, for telling us that we all come from a monkey, because in other case I doubt that anybody would see the resemblance ! ”

I know that is hard to find out how exactly the photos I’m sending are connected with “evolution” but actually I have an interesting idea about them and I hope you will find it interesting: The first photo symbolizes the figures that ancient people have drawn in caves – but this actually is done all by the nature J , the second photo is about how people have managed to get out of these caves and start a new life outside – that is evolution! The third photo show what evolution has made with people – seems that they are still monkeys who need someone to tell them that technology can not take nature’s place! My last photo symbolizes that - no matter what we do – we are not Mr Darwin’s creatures anymore and, despite of the all greyness we have created, we are still able to see the miracles of the nature like a simple sunrise J.
