EVOLUTION IS A CONSTANT PROCESS
What a perfection could be hidden in a single drop of water! Life originated from water and would be impossible without the presence of it.

The study of evolution reveals the historical development of all living organisms as a process of constant change and transformation. The true scientific theory of evolution was created by Charles Darwin. According to that theory, only the most adaptable organisms are able to survive in the struggle for existence.
Nowadays, insects seem to be the most successful living organisms on our planet. Supposedly, there are no less than 1.5 or 2 million species of insects and new ones are being discovered all the time. Insects appeared even before dinosaurs, as traces of their existence were found in devon and carbon layers (300 – 400 million of years ago). Now they can be found everywhere and they have amazingly developed senses. Insects were the first creatures to inhabit our planet’s atmosphere.
Dragon flies are considered to be among the best flying insects. Their enormous bulging facet eyes occupy the larger part of their head providing for a 360- degree field of vision. Unlike the female specimen of Libellula depresssa, the male one has light blue colour.

Beetles also possess a complex eye system, but in fact they rely more on their antennae or feelers, which are organs of tactile and olfactory senses. The common marten or Cetonia aurata, can be often seen on the blossoms of various flowers.

The rhinoceros beetle or Oryktes nasicornis, is among the largest beetles in Bulgaria and it has been on the list of protected species. This kind of beetle is active at night and in the day it hides into the ground. The male beetle can be distinguished for its horn which can be 7 – 8 mm long.

Metamorphism is a specific feature of insects. The most amazing changes are to be seen among butterflies. The large crescent or Papilio mahaon, is the largest daytime butterfly not only in Bulgaria but also in the whole of Europe.

Insects are capable of quickly adapting themselves to alternating environment. It would be hard to imagine a world without them! We humans must never forget that we are part of our nature. We not only change the nature, but we are also dependent on it!
